Body found in search for missing man as catamaran destroyed by fire in Queensland’s north

Search for missing man continues as crime scene declared on catamaran destroyed by fire in Queensland's north

A body has been found in the search for a missing boatowner after a fire tore through the vessel in Queensland’s north over the weekend.

The catamaran, named Yalo, was seen on fire in the Johnson River at Innisfail about midday on Saturday.

Its owner Raffaele Pagliarini, 66, was last seen on board on Friday.

In a grim update, Queensland Police said a body had been found during the search for Pagliarini on Monday night.

However, the body has yet to be formally identified.

“No definite determinations have been made at this stage,” police said.

Queensland Police had previously appealed for public help to locate the missing man.

“The vessel has been declared a crime scene and police divers are returning to the vessel today to conduct searches of the surrounding area,” police said on Sunday.

Pagliarini’s friends had asked via social media for locals to keep a lookout.

“We are reaching out to you with great concern for our dear friend, Raffaele Pagliarini (Raff),” one friend said.

“We kindly request your assistance in locating him or providing any information that may help us find him.”

“I hope he is found safe and sound soon,” another person said.

Locals said Pagliarini was renowned for his hospitality and for making wood-fired pizzas on board his boat, with one friend noting he had more than 40 years experience boating.
