A desperate search across land and sea for two stand-up paddleboarders believed to be missing off the coast of Nambucca Heads on the NSW Mid North Coast ended on Tuesday afternoon when the pair were found safe.
A beachgoer raised the alarm when she spotted them roughly 1km out from the shore at 6.30pm on Monday night, but when rescue crews arrived 20 minutes later, the paddleboarders had disappeared.
Two Marine Rescue NSW crews hit the water an hour later and scoured the area until 10pm, when the search was called off due to dangerous surf conditions.

One paddleboarder was reportedly wearing a red shirt, and the other a yellow shirt, when they were last spotted between Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head.
There was no official missing persons report which matched the description of the two paddleboarders, and NSW Police told 7NEWS.com.au on Tuesday morning that there was a possibility the pair returned safely to shore after they were spotted on the water.
NSW Police confirmed just before 1.30pm on Tuesday that is exactly what had happened.
“The pair confirmed with police that they had been in the water at that time before returning home safely,” NSW Police said.
